15 Fashion Tips To Dress Better

Style Rules Every Woman Should Know

These are the 27 fashion tips for women that I live by when it comes to my closet and style, and that I’ve had to (mostly) learn the hard way over the years.

2. Hang all of your everyday wear

up in your closet in the same direction on the same hangers. Ideally, wood hangers if you have the space, or velvet ones work great for smaller closets.

3. Build a closet you love

by shopping for affordable trend items and investing in classic forever pieces.

4. Make your coat, jacket, or blazer look more luxe

by changing the buttons to simple small ones that match the color of the fabric.

5. Don’t buy anything you can’t return

until you know the brands that work for you, and even then tread cautiously.

6. You should let go of an item in your closet

when you haven’t worn it in a year when you never reach for it, and if you just don’t like how it looks on. The Well Dressed Life writes, “The key to looking stylish is only to wear things you love. One of my biggest “Aha’s” was when I realized how many clothes women buy that are “just okay.” Almost every woman I know has an article of clothing or an entire outfit that they make do with, but they don’t love it or even like it”.

7. To learn what works for your body type

find someone in the public eye whose style you admire and who has a similar body shape and coloring to you. Create a Pinterest board with looks they’re wearing that you love for style inspiration.

8. When you’re stacking items on a shelf

like your sweaters, avoid stacking more than three or four in a pile. Stack them by color and rotate the top item to the bottom after you have worn it.

9. Balance the proportions of your outfit.

If you’re wearing a tight top make sure to wear a looser bottom if you’re wearing a tight bottom make sure to wear a looser top. According to Stylishly Me, “If you’re going for an item that is intentionally larger, make sure to balance it with a slimmer piece. Like pairing a slouchy sweater with black leggings or a pencil skirt, the looser top balances the form-fitting bottom”.

10. If your weight has changed

and there are items in your closet that you love but don’t currently fit, have a separate area in your closet to store those items. Keep them for up to a year and then after a year reassess. It might be time to let them go if they still don’t fit.

11. Avoid hanging sentimental items

in your closet with your everyday clothes. Instead, put these items in a special box that you store away for safekeeping. Add a lavender satchel or cedar wood blocks to protect those items from moths and musty odors.

12 and accessible, including your jeans. I recommend hanging your jeans because if you can’t see an item you have it’s likely you’ll forget about it.

Everything in your closet must be visible

13. Keep items in your closet that need to be steamed

or tailored in a separate area. Plan a time once a week to drop these items off at a tailor and do your steaming. Never integrate things back into your wardrobe in their dry cleaning bags which can break down the fabric over time. The same rule goes with items that are still wrinkled because when you go to reach for them they won’t be ready to wear. Only have items in your closet hanging with your everyday wear that are ready to be worn.

14. Do you want your clothes to last?

Skip the dryer and invest in a good drying rack. I recommend even hanging your “good” tees, jeans, and other clothing items to dry instead of putting them in the dryer.

16. Organize your closet by types

of items first. Separate your pieces by tops, bottoms, dresses, and jackets. Once they’re separated by type organize each section from short sleeve to long sleeve, by color from light to dark, and from casual to dressy. Stylishly Me states, “With an organized closet you’ll approach your closet with a positive attitude and enthusiasm”.
